Seminar on Drug Abuse Prevention at Punjab Group of Colleges


A seminar was held on 5th March, 2011 in collaboration with Punjab Group of Colleges (PGC) by Anti Narcotics Force (ANF), Government of Pakistan and Aghaz-e-Nau, a nonprofit organization. The main focus of the seminar was to introduce “Drug Free Lahore City Project” and to educate the students about the hazards of drug abuse.

Mr. Muhammad Altaf Qamar, Deputy Director General, Anti Narcotics Force, Government of Pakistan joined the program as a Chief Guest.  Col. Iftikhar Chaudry, Joint Director (RD), Mr. Javed Iqbal, Joint Director (DDR) and Ms. Maria Ali, Drug Demand Reduction Officer, Anti Narcotics Force, Punjab also attended the program.

The program started with the National Anthem.



Ms. Maria Ali, Drug Demand Reduction Officer, Anti Narcotics Force, Punjab gave a presentation and explained the role of ANF in drug supply reduction and drug demand reduction. She also discussed the role of educational institutes in drug abuse prevention.

A short play was performed by the students of Punjab Group of Colleges on "Hazards of Drug Abuse". Use of Shisha and other drugs was discouraged in this play. Use of Shisha is becoming popular amongst youngsters. The conclusion of the play was that drugs can cause death.

A poem on "HOPE and RECOVERY" that drug abuse can be prevented and drug addiction can be treated was presented by Ms. Sumaira Shahzad, Psychologist, AeN.


A mime was presented by the students of Punjab Group of Colleges showing the hazardous effects of drugs on life.





Address by the Chief Guest


The main focus of the his address was to introduce “Drug Free Lahore City Project”. Chief Guest, Mr. Muhammad Altaf Qamar, Deputy Director General, Anti Narcotics Force, Pakistan thanked the management of PGC for holding an amazing seminar and for being helpful. In his speech, he discussed a true story of a boy who was on drugs and the way his drug addiction affected his mother and sister. His speech was not only full of emotions and heart touching but motivational as well.

Towards the end, he delivered his message to the audience to jump into this noble cause to help others stay away from drugs and to create a drug free society. His speech was liked by all the students.

Mr. Suhail Azhar, Group Executive Director of PGC called up to appreciate the whole program and the address by Chief Guest, Mr. Muhammad Altaf Qamar, Deputy Director General, Anti Narcotics Force, Pakistan. His address was followed by Candle light vigils.
