Lahore Drug Free City



A seminar was held at Workers Welfare Higher Secondary School, Nishtar Colony, Lahore on 28. 04.2011 from 11:00 am to 01:00 pm. The seminar was held with the following objectives:
                    
  • To introduce “Lahore Drug Free City Project”
  •  To discuss the Role of ANF in Drug Supply Reduction and Drug Demand Reduction
  •   To discuss harmful effects of drugs
  •   To educate parents and teachers on how to help youth stay away from drugs         
  •   To Motivate Students to create massive awareness against drug abuse in the society

The seminar was organized by Aghaz-e-Nau in collaboration with Maj. (R), Nadeem Abbas, Project Manager “Lahore Drug Free City”.

 Audience:
·         Yong Students (Approximately 300)
·         Parents  (300)
·         Teachers  (40)
·         Total: More than 60 
      Audience Response/Objectives achieved
  • All the participants took interest and showed keen interest to learn more.
  •  One child volunteered to speak on drug addiction
  •  One of the teachers volunteered to deliver a short speech on the causes of drug addiction
  •  One of the mothers also volunteered to discuss on the causes of drug addiction
  • All the participants got motivated to turn Lahore into a drug free city.
  • All the participants took an oath to turn Lahore into a drug free city.
  • All the faculty members liked the seminar and wanted to have another seminar after summer vacations.
  • The Principal appreciated the efforts of Aghaz-e-Nau and mentioned that the program was highly informative for her and the participants.

Seminar on drug free city

Lahore—The menace of drugs is destroying our society. All persons of the society and organizations should make coordinated efforts for saving the young generation from this curse. We should come forward to make the drug addicts an active member of the society.



This was stated by Dr. Mehmooda, a renowned psychiatrist, while addressing a seminar on the subject “drug free city” held under the aegis of an NGO “Aghaz-e-Nau” at Workers Welfare Higher Secondary School Nishtar Labour Colony Ferozpur Road Lahore. 



She said that the use of drugs was increasing in the society. She said that economic problems, mental anxiety and domestic problems were the cause of use of drugs. She stressed upon the parents to keep an eye over their children and provide them better training. 



She said that NGO “Aghaz-e-Nau” was working for eradication of drugs since 1993 and treatment and rehabilitation facilities were being provided to the drug addicts. 



She disclosed that important steps were being taken for making Lahore a drug free city and, besides awareness campaign, other necessary steps were also being taken in this regard. She said that lectures and seminars were being organized in schools and colleges about the harmful effects of this menace.
