HIV Prevention Program for Youth

INTRODUCTION AND BACKGROUND Today, young people (15-24) account for 40 per cent of all new adult HIV infections. Each day, more than 2400 young people become infected with HIV—and some five million young people are living with HIV. Young people are a fulcrum. They remain at the center of the epidemic and they have the power, through their leadership, to definitively change the course of the AIDS epidemic. Experience over the past decade has demonstrated how to address HIV among young people . In countries with concentrated epidemics, programs and resources must focus on adolescents and youth who engage in risky behaviors, including injecting drugs, selling sex and men who have sex with men. In countries with generalized epidemics, where the general population is at risk, all vulnerable young people, particularly young women, need to be targeted priority in policy and program design. A seminar was held  at  Workers Welfare Higher Secondary School, Nishtar Colony, Lahore on  28. 04.2011 from 1 1:00 am to 01:00 pm. The seminar was held with the following objectives:                       To introduce “Lahore Drug Free City Project”   To discuss the Role of ANF in Drug Supply Reduction and Drug Demand Reduction    To discuss harmful effects of drugs    To educate parents and teachers on how to help youth stay away from drugs             To Motivate Students to create massive awareness against drug abuse in the society The seminar was organized by Aghaz-e-Nau in collaboration with Maj. Seminar on Drug Abuse Prevention at Lahore College Women University

Aghaz-e-Nau (AeN) conducted a seminar on "Drug Abuse Prevention" for the students of Lahore College Women University in collaboration with Anti Narcotics Force Punjab on 9th February, 2011. AeN is thankful to Mr. Altaf Qamar, Deputy Director General, Anti Narcotics Force (ANF), Pakistan and Brig. Shahid Afzal; Force Commander, Anti Narcotics Force (ANF), Punjab to grace the occasion with their presence. Ms. Shireen Asad, Associate professor & in charge students’ academic affairs of Applied Psychology Department (LCWU) started the formal session. The session started with the National Anthem followed by the recitation of Qur’an and Naa’t by the students of LCWU. A brief introduction of AeN was given by Ms. Shireen Asad.
